I’ve been following the Thor storyline for a long time. When I first saw the first movie I hated it for the sole reason that Loki died at the end… except he didn’t. I watched again after I learned the truth and liked it a lot better. I loved Avengers, I loved The Dark World, I loved Age of Ultron, and I adored Ragnarok. I was always excited for it; I watched the first trailer eight times in a row when it came out. I went into this movie was very, very high expectations; but every one of them was met.
The characters were amazingly done. First of all, Loki. I have been a Loki fan for years and years. Throughout all the films, I, along with many other Tom Hiddleston fans, hoped for a more humorous approach to Loki’s character. We got it, and it was so good. They poked fun at how often he betrays Thor, they made reference to Thor and Loki’s childhood together, they gave him tons of great lines and little scenes. I’m so glad they did what they did with his character and I really hope I get to see more later. Valkyrie also is a wonderful new character and I would marry her right now if I could. It was so great to see the woman play a funny character. Like, she’s still super cool and a great fighter with a tragic backstory, but she drinks and does funny things. Like wow, women in cinema have a sense of humor. And don’t get me started on Hela. Our first female Marvel supervillain? Makes knives come out of nowhere? Great lines, great costume, great actress, great everything? This movie had me in heaven.
I loved the aesthetic too. So much. The 80’s video game soundtrack, the retro sets, colorful lighting, all of it. It was nostalgic and beautiful and very fitting at the same time. Marvel really knocked it out of the park on this one.
Warnings for Thor: Ragnarok: a lot of death, at one point Hulk is very naked, some cursing but it was great
