The Pledge
Now, I'm not usually one for dark movies, and The Prestige may be all magical and even has David Bowie in it, but make no mistake, it's dark as hell. I thought the cast was fantastic, and Chris Nolan messed me up in the best way as always. The setting was great, and it was a lovely film about magic and 19th century magicians I never knew I needed.
Except, it wasn't as much about magic as I expected.

The Turn
I thought this film was executed brilliantly. The cast was incredible, with lots of faces I recognised, and some I didn't (David Bowie looks a lot different as Tesla than as the Goblin King, unsurprisingly). I noticed a lot of blue in the movie, and I liked how the setting of the 1800s as just a background instead of something to make the movie good. It felt very natural to see the things that aren't around today, and allowed me to look past it and become enthralled in the plot and characters instead. It was a very pretty movie, and I can't believe it took me as long as it did to see it. The set was great, but the ending is what really made me love it.

The Prestige
The ending. The ending. I'm still so shook. I usually don't like anything as dark as this, but this was different, because it was so flawlessly executed. It played on some pretty hard sci-fi ideas that I've always wanted to see, and it was so well done that I can't help but love it. SPOILERS: I loved the cloning idea. The twin thing kinda threw me off because it felt too cliché to be real, but I've grown to accept it. It was a really good movie, and it's been a long time since a twist has really thrown me off this much. I really recommend seeing it, although it is pretty scarring!
Nonetheless, this movie really was one fantastic magic trick. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Warnings for The Prestige: Reaally violent, a few jump scares, a lot of blood, some death, and some serious moral ambiguity. It really messes with you, but it's super fun. In my opinion, it probably should be rated R.
