It took me way longer than it should have to see this movie. I've seen so many gif sets about it, I've heard about all the best one-liners, and I've witnessed so many references to it that it isn't even funny. But I finally got around to watching it this weekend and I wasn't disappointed. I loved it! I have no complaints. All the characters were pretty thorough and funny and likeable, the villain was pretty fun to watch even though he was crazy as hell, and on top of all that the score was pretty great too. I loved the theme for El Dorado, and also the Dies Irae mixed in with Cortez's theme. I thought that was pretty clever.
The only thing I didn't love about this was the animation quality; the script was absolutely brilliant, but I thought the animation was a little lacklustre, though it came out almost twenty years ago. Also, the sheer quality of the plot and characters honestly makes up for the quality of the art, so I'm okay with it. The only other thing that annoyed me were the vocal songs mixed in - I just didn't like the voice of the guy singing. But overall, I have no real complaints! I loved this movie! I wanna draw about it. It was hilarious. Honestly, I don't know what else to say; it was just really funny, really simple, and really entertaining. Nothing groundbreaking or mind-blowing, but quality entertainment.
Also, I thought it was funny how carefully they had to avoid making it gay. They had to try so so hard to make sure everyone know Miguel and Tulio were NOT a couple see LOOK LOOK Tulio has a GIRLFRIEND even though the main plot is completely surrounding Tulio and Miguel's fight and nearly splitting apart but LOOK his GIRLFRIEND. I thought it was funny but also I'm not complaining because I love Chel very much. She's great; and don't get me started on the horse.
Warnings for Road to El Dorado: Eh. Mentions of sacrifice and blood but nothing really stood out to me. Though there was part with magic spiders and snakes though so watch out for that but it's only like five seconds anyway.
