It's so good to be back watching Hitchcock again and I really wasn't disappointed with this film, as usual. This one I got to watch with my mom, which was a real pleasure, especially since she read (and adored) the book and we got to have fun together enjoying the movie. I thought the film was great and entertaining, but also, it was quite impressive cinematically as well. I don't think I was bored for a minute while I watched and I can point out several moments that really stood out to me as cool.
My two favourite parts are first when Mr. deWinters was telling his wife the whole truth about Rebecca, and it showed where she would have been in the scene with the camerawork as he narrated it, so you could imagine it actually happening. It was one of the coolest things I've seen a director do, I really liked it. I also loved the shot right at the end of the movie when the mansion is burning and the camera pans across the windows so you see Mrs. Danvers inside. I really liked that and I think it made the scene much more epic; not to mention how cool fire looks in black and white. Honestly, the whole last scene was so dramatic and intense but so satisfying, I loved it. It was abrupt, sure, but it had a happy ending, so I was fine with it. It was open ended. Rebecca might actually be my favourite Hitchcock movie now, honestly. I loved it so much. I really can't think of one I like better. Yay!
Warnings for Rebecca: Murder, mentions of fatal illness and sensitivity around unborn children, just light stuff like that
